War of the Roses is an action game developed at Fatshark and released by Paradox Interactive. In an interview with einfo games, executive Producer and CEO Martin Wahlund of Fatshark said “We are also working on War of The Roses that will be released this autumn”.The game is set during the Wars of the Roses which ravaged England in the 15th century.

Setting

War of the Roses takes place in 15th century England during the period of civil wars known by the same name. The conflict is between the houses Lancaster (the red roses) and York (the white roses). This period also saw some of the earliest use of gunpowder in Western conflicts.

Gameplay

War of the Roses puts the player in control of a single, customizable soldier fighting for either the House of Lancaster or the House of York. The game plays in a third-person viewpoint and is a multiplayer game. There are three different types of weapons which the player can equip at a single time: primary, secondary, and a dagger.
Player engaged in mounted combat.
The game will feature period weapons, and will be melee focused (broad swords and battle axes), however, longbowmen and crossbowmen are also a playable class. The game will also feature mounted combat, with players wielding swords, axes and lances while on horseback.
Single-Player

A single-player mode will be included with the game. It has been stated though that the focus of the game will be the mutliplayer, and that the single-player is intended to be used as training for multiplayer. Experience gained during the campaign will be able to contribute in some way to multiplayer. The single-player campaign of the game was cancelled during development so that the developers could focus more on balancing the multiplayer, however, the single-player training mode remains.

Multiplayer

Fatshark has stated that the multiplayer is designed to be highly accessible. Battles will be "large scale," and the multiplayer will feature some form of persistence.
