Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault (known as Ratchet & Clank: QForce in PAL countries) is a platform game developed by Insomniac Games for the PlayStation Network and published by Sony.Like the previous downloadable game in the series, Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty, in Europe, as well as the United States for this time, it was released on Blu-ray Disc as well as the PlayStation Store. It is available on the PlayStation 3 with the PlayStation Vita version delayed until January 2013 and available for free with the PlayStation 3 version.






 

 

 

Overview

Full Frontal Assault involves an intergalactic conflict, and revolves around the co-op and competitive mechanics of dropping into the battlefield, choosing your weapons and experiencing it with friends.

Plot

Captain Qwark was on the Starship Phoenix II with Ratchet and Clank complaining of boredom at how there was nothing to shoot in the Private Sector. In an attempt to entertain Qwark, Clank suggested that there were some "rouge" cleaner bots in the engine room. After destroying the robots they were summoned to the bridge where a transmission from an enemy of Qwark came in, explaining that several Planetary Defense Centers were going to be taken by Grungarian Marauders. In response to this threat Qwark reassembled the QForce.

The QForce then headed to the Korgon Refinery where they defended the QForce base, captured several QForce weapon nodes and reclaimed the planet. They were then able to restore the Planetary Defense Center's power by destroying the Grungarian generators.They then restored power to the defense center and a second transmission from Qwark's enemy arrived. In the transmission the enemy revealed himself as the Qwark fan boy, who wanted revenge for being let down by Qwark many times.


The QForce then went to the Hidden City of Balkai and after activating the West and East Key Node, they retook the Planetary Defense Center and then rebooted the system. They repeated this feat at the GrummelNet Plasma Harvester before a distress call from the Plumber was received. They traveled to the Korgon Refinery and helped fix his ship - at this point they realized that the Plumber could have not have been on the Starship Phoenix II so they headed back to the ship and found it had been hacked. Zurgo revealed that he had been using a hologuise to disguise himself as the Plumber and had taken control of the ship. He also told them that he had taken over the Weather grid and had turned the Hidden City of Balkai to become covered in snow. After destroying the weather beacons and ending a snow twister, the QForce activated and protected a reformatting device, escorting it to the Planetary Defense Center where it restored the planet's weather.
After pinpointing Zurgo's location to Ebaro, the QForce then set out to Zurgo's Lair of Doom. After disabling an explosive they encountered Zurgo and defeated him. When leaving the Lair of Doom with a subdued Zurgo Qwark accidentally threw him off a bridge

Gameplay


Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault heads back to the classic camera, weapons and third-person Ratchet gameplay that the series is known for, while adding a new tower defense element that will have the player building and defending a base against invasions using the ultimate Ratchet & Clank arsenal. It will feature five levels set on three different planets. The game will allow players to play as Ratchet, Clank (in either his Giant Clank or normal forms), or Captain Qwark. This title will also feature the ability for co-op play, both on and offline.

Full Frontal Assault single-player features three playable characters: Captain Qwark, Ratchet and Clank. Full Frontal Assault is designed to have more replayability than Quest for Booty. Medals are awarded based on the player's performance in the tower defense segments, encouraging the player to replay these as medals unlock new perks and armors for Ratchet, Clank and Qwark. Skill Points return and unlock a variety of options with 117 skill points in total. There are also other time-based challenges in the form of Insomniac Challenge Times for campaign mode.

Gameplay returns to the traditional third-person camera in classic Ratchet & Clank style. The gameplay is more classic action based Ratchet & Clank but also relates to the Siege gameplay in Ratchet & Clank:Up Your Arsenal and hoverboot action in Krell Canyon from Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time than previous corridor style gameplay. This is primarily due to the new tower-defense element involving building and defending a base and a focus on combat. The game features a full arsenal of weapons.The weapons are primarily taken from previous games on the PlayStation 3 with some given a new twist to balance the game.


Levels in Full Frontal Assault are set up in an open fashion. Weapons are dotted around the level and are hidden in pods, with the stronger weapons being harder to find. During the level, the player has to kill enemies while he traverses the level to find weapons. Near the end of the level, the tower-defense aspect is brought in and a "major assault" is unleashed. The player has to set up defenses around the level to defend against the onslaught, and defenses are brought with bolts obtained from killing enemies before the major assault.
Each level is split into several stages. It begins with a Recon phase which is set aside for exploring the battlefield, obtaining weapons from QForce weapon pods and capturing nodes. The nodes produce a bolts-per-second income vital to later stages. This is followed by a Squad phase which is used to prepare for attacking and defending options such as purchasing defense barriers, turrets and weapon upgrades. Finally the Assault phase is the result of the ongoing preparations where bases are attacked and the player must defend their base.




Heads-up display

Various parts of the heads-up display can help the player such as the invasion detector. When the player's health is low the character glows red until health is restored.

Multiplayer

The Blue and Red mutliplayer teams.
There is a competitive and co-operative multiplayer mode in Full Frontal Assault. The mode works with two player splitscreen or on-line co-operative play in addition to an online-only competitive multiplayer mode. It features five levels set on three different planets.
The competitive multiplayer mode revolves around each player protecting their base and attacking the enemy base. The recon stage is used to compete against the opponent in a race to secure bolt-funding nodes and equipment. The squad phase then allows the player to chose what strategy to adopt - the balance between using resources to defend or attack. Finally the assault phase simultaneously begins the attacks forcing the player to stick with their strategy and attempt to defend their base while dealing as much damage to the enemy as possible. The competitive mode can be played with two players competing against each other or with two teams of two players against each other.

Uncharted: Fight for Fortune is a strategic turn-based card game based on the Uncharted series released on December 4, 2012. The game pits two players against each other, represented by characters from the series. The players use their decks of cards to defeate the opposing side. The game can connect with Uncharted: Golden Abyss, earning the player new cards based on their progression in the campaign and the trophies they have earned. Cards in the main game come from Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, and the video series Uncharted: Eye of Indra. God of War: Ascension is an upcoming third person action-adventure video game being developed by SCE Santa Monica Studio and to be published by Sony Computer Entertainment. The game is scheduled to be released on March 12, 2013 for the PlayStation 3 video game console and will be the seventh installment in the God of War series and a prequel to the entire series. It will be the first installment in the series to feature multiplayer, be developed with Stereoscopic 3D and feature a revamped combat and weapon system, and new gameplay mechanics.
Loosely based on Greek mythology, the game will be set in Ancient Greece with the player controlling the protagonist Kratos. Kratos attempts to sever ties with the God of War Ares—who tricked Kratos into murdering his wife and child—by defeating the three Furies. God of War: Ascension will chronologically be the first chapter in the series, forming part of a saga with vengeance as a central theme.

Single Player

As seen in the demos, the gameplay of God of War: Ascension is similar to that of its predecessors. It is a third-person single-player video game viewed from a fixed camera perspective. The game also features a first-person camera view. The player controls the character Kratos in combo-based combat, platforming, and puzzle game elements. Kratos is guided through various environments while fighting enemies, who come mostly from Greek mythology. Platforming elements require the player to climb walls, jump across chasms, and slide down walls to proceed through sections of the game. Some puzzles are simple, such as moving a box so that the player can use it as a jumping-off point to access a pathway unreachable with normal jumping, but others are more complex, such as finding several items across different areas of the game to unlock one door. The single-player will feature a "revamped" combat and weapon system, "promptless" mini-games and new puzzles. Sony stated the game will offer "fluid, life-like characters, dynamic lighting effects, and world-changing scenarios", although the story is "a little bit shorter" than previous games.



Kratos' main weapon is the Blades of Chaos: a pair of blades attached to chains that are wrapped around Kratos' wrists. The blades can be swung around to attack enemies. Kratos will be able to imbue the Blades of Chaos with different elemental properties, such as fire, ice, and black magic.Although little has been revealed about new weapons obtained in the game, Kratos will be able to pick up the weapons of defeated foes and use them (also allowing Kratos to switch weapons mid-combo) for a limited time. Little has been revealed of the magical abilities that will be acquired, except for the Life Cycle mechanic, which will allow Kratos to freeze enemies and manipulate time for puzzle solving. As in previous games, a "Rage" mode is included, which provides increased attack damage and different attack combinations. Unlike the previous games, the "Rage" meter is filled by attacking enemies and once full, the ability is automatically activated and remains activated until Kratos is attacked, thus requiring the meter to be refilled.


As in the previous games, players will find chests colored green, blue, or red, with each chest containing orbs or the corresponding color. Green orbs replenish the player's health, blue orbs replenish magic allowing further usage, and red orbs provide experience for upgrading weapons and magic—making new, more-powerful attacks available. Red orbs are also collected by destroying certain inanimate objects. As in the previous games, the player can collect Gorgon Eyes and Phoenix Feathers. The Eyes and Feathers increase the length of the health and magic meters, respectively. In combat, a quick time event (QTE) feature, also called context sensitive attacks, is initiated when the player has weakened a strong foe. The player performs a sequence of actions on the game controller shortly after the appearance of an on-screen prompt. This allows for limited control of Kratos during a QTE cinematic sequence, which, if successful, ends the battle; failure usually results in damage to the protagonist.

Multiplayer


The game will offer a multiplayer feature for up to eight players, with a small story element. Players will be either on two teams of four, or alone, and will try to take control of a map in order to earn rewards from the gods, although the players must first sell their champion's soul to one of four deities: Ares, Hades, Zeus, or Poseidon. Each god offers a unique combat play-style and abilities in battle. Players will unlock special magic abilities, new and upgraded armors and weapons, relics, and other treasures as players earn experience points (XP) to level up their warrior. The attack-style of the god with whom players align is critical to their warrior's path.



There will be four multiplayer modes: Team Favor of the Gods, Favor of the Gods, Trial of the Gods, and Capture the Flag. The signature multiplayer mode is Team Favor of the Gods. In this mode, two teams of four—Spartans versus Trojans—try to accumulate a target amount of points in order to claim victory. Points, known as Favor, are earned by kills and other methods. When players are not on the offensive, they may help their team earn points by capturing altars, collecting red orbs from chests, and setting traps for opposing players. Every multiplayer map features several special power-ups awarded by the gods, such as the Boots of Hermes for accelerated speed, providing players with a brief advantage. The non-team version, Favor of the Gods, is a four player deathmatch with the same goal as the team version. Trial of the Gods is a two-player, cooperative, time trial mode. In this mode, players face five increasingly hard waves of mythological monsters, followed by a boss fight, whilst surviving against the clock. A single-player version will be available. In Capture the Flag, the Spartans and Trojans battle to steal the opposing team's flag and return it to their base until a target amount of flags have been captured. Each multiplayer map is based on a signature God of War location (e.g. Desert of Lost Souls from God of War and Forum of Hercules from God of War III)



The first demonstration featured the Team Favor of the Gods mode on the Desert of Lost Soulsmap. Players serve either Sparta or Troy and battle in teams for control of territory, with the Titan cyclops Polyphemus also in play and attacking the warring armies. Contested zones contain mechanical gears that control the chains binding the one-eyed giant, and after capturing multiple gears and earning a certain number of Favor, the gods will award the winning army with the Spear of Olympus, which in turn provides the power needed to dispatch Polyphemus. The mode fluctuates from attack and defend, forcing the offensive team to hold the territory gained as they attempt to destroy Polyphemus. If the defensive team regains control of territory, Polyphemus resets to original position and the Spear is lost.
